Ken,

I am gradually changing my contest macros to include hyphens between the
numbers of an exchange. For example, in the just completed JARTS contest I
sent "599-67-67". The hyphens prevent USOS from unnecessary shifting
between the numbers. I've put a stop watch on my macros and including the
hyphens in place of the spaces between the numbers results in a faster
transmission time. If the exchange contains alphabetic characters, like a
state or Provence, don't use the hyphens, just leave spaces. For example,
in "599 AK AK" USOS will unshift from numbers to chars on the space after
the 599. The following alpha characters do not need another shift back into
numbers. Including hyphens, such as "AK-AK" will cause unnecessary shifts
and longer transmission times.

73,
Gary AL9A
