That is the correct thing to do, if your rig can only go up to 100 watts.
Remember that PSK31 has a crest factor of about 3 dB. By the time your idle
Varicode produces 50 watts average RMS output, the peaks of the RF waveform are
hitting 100 watts instantaneous power, which is often determined by the PA rail
voltage. Push it any more than that and IMD can climb sky high.
At 50 watts under AWGN conditions, it performs as well as a 100 watt RTTY
signal, anyway. But your power bills drops by 50%.
