If for example DXCC countries were to count as multipliers on each band
instead of once only regardless of band, there would be more incentive for
US stations to look for DX stations on all bands, thereby increasing
activity on all bands that would attract DX stations. As another example, if
contacts between continents were awarded two points instead of one, there
would also be more incentive for US to work DX and for DX to become more
active. These ideas are not new. You can see them at work in other RTTY and
DX contests. RU is a bit of an anomaly in this regard I think in that the
scoring structure is more like Sweep Stakes than a DX contest and yet DX is
invited to participate in RU but not in SS.

That's my theory. When like 63 multipliers are from CONUS and Canada, it's
clear that the ARRL takes the 'A' in 'ARRL' seriously.

Do you think the difference is that it is the AMERICAN Radio Relay League
RTTY Roundup vs CQ's Worldwide contests? The perception by DX stations being
that it is a US contest, rather than a WW contest?

IMHO, Its not just this last session. Like Don, I've noticed it every time
I get into the RU, which I admit has not been that often in recent years.
Its a major RTTY contest but DX participation from my perspective is down
for RU when compared to others like CQWW RTTY contests where there's lots
of DX. One could simply prove or disprove this theory by comparing the
numbers of DX entries across the major RTTY contests.

The lack of DX can be explained by the propagation reports for Saturday
and Sunday. They were exceptionally poor.

If this had been WPX or CQWW, 10 and 15 meters would have
been wall-to-wall Europe starting here at 1300Z and probably going well
past 2000Z with the high flux we had. That doesn't happen in
Roundup. Or least that doesn't happen here during Roundup."Don - I
agree. Personally, I think the rules/awards don't give DX much incentive
to get into this one nor do they give US stations muchincentive to work
DX, particularly on 80 and 10. I usually can't do much in this contest
due to its proximity to the holidays, but that's just me. This year was
no exception.JohnNN1SS (ex K1FWE)
