This happens to me quite often. It's like they are just waiting for me to pause and then they take over. I used to get upset over this but now I just move somewhere else and try again. The trailing CQ to me is helpful for the S&P guys as I sometimes do S&P and waiting to see who is calling CQ and who is replying without a CQ or QRZ takes way too long.

Ten seconds can be an awfullly long time on RATTY.

During the BARTG, I had a nice run going on 20 and had to stop for just a
few seconds to cnange one of my macros (which probably took less than 10
seconds) and someone plopped on my frequency and started calling CQ.

What was funny was that the station was exactly zero beat, like they had
heard me calling CQ and when I stopped, they assumed I was gone. 73

First, and foremost, opinions are as other parts of human antimony!
Everyone has one!!
I agree with 15, but not 10. Anyone that arbitrarily begins to call CQ,
without asking if the frequency is in use, is inconsiderate.
inconsiderate = not thinking about the rights and feelings of other people

As far as a "trailing" CQ, I also relate it to "test" on CW. When I tune
by, there is absolutely no doubt as to the intentions of the "calling"
station.
