You're using the wrong cable. The interlink cable is a NULL modem cable and 
the FT-1000MP needs a straight through cable to go from it to the computer.

Ignore the gender of the connectors.. goodness knows why Yaesu put a male on 
the 1000 MP, when a female connector is the correct one for a DTE device.

You may need to get a gender changer for the 9 pin to 9 pin (or 9 to 25 pin) 
serial cable you buy for the MP side.
