I won't comment on the Heil equipment.

What I did for the footswitch was take a couple of 1"x8"x36"
boards, a piano hinge, a couple of springs, and a couple of lever
action momentary switches.  I wired the two switches in parallel
and mounted them 1/3 of the way in from each end of the boards,
attached the piano hinge, secured the springs with some metal
strapping and voila!  a neat, reliable,
easy-to-find-with-your-foot-without-looking/tapping-around-PTT
switch.  Mine is raw, untreated wood; you can put fabric,
non-skid, rubber, even velcro on it (and your foot?) if you
want...

Oh yeah...cost less than commercial PTT footswitches.

Works great with my Omni VI....when I operate SSB.
