Any rig with good sensitivity on higher bands will need typically an
attenuator under some conditions on 80 and 40, and this is what ATTN is
there for. The remarkable thing about my 1254 Ten Tec receiver, (kit I
built) is its 80 and 40 M sound is much cleaner and lower distortion than my
Kenwood 450 transceiver which easily overloads on those bands, unless you
use the 20 dB ATN button at those times of high signal levels. Front end
overload is a common receiver fault with Yaecomwood, under wide open band
conditions.
