A couple thoughts about email viruses......I now use a hotmail.com account
and no longer use my ISP-assigned email address. Hotmail.com scans all
incoming emails and thus I should never get a virus -- well, you know how
that goes! The good news is I don't use Outlook Express anymore which is the
target for the vast majority of viruses lately. Typically, the viruses will
try launching a Java or Visual Basic script file when you open an
attachment, then do their damage. So, don't open attachments! I know, easier
said than done so........
I'm not that familar with Outlook Express anymore but I know in regular
Outlook you can install a Microsoft patch that basically will not allow an
attachment to be opened from your mail client (which is what the virus is
counting on) and instead save it off to your hard drive for opening later
viewing thus giving your anti-virus software a chance to examine the file
before you open it.
Anyway, who would ever have thought 10 years ago we'd be fighting electronic
viruses attaching our email??!!
