A little simple math will show what we can expect from the
Centaur in terms of output. The specs say we shouldn't apply more
drive than is necessary for 500 milliamps plate current. At this current,
the high voltage on the tubes drops to 1500 volts. Multiplying .5 amps
times 1500 volts produces 750 watts input to the tubes. The best
we can hope for in terms of efficiency is 60 percent. This yields 450
watts output. So I would not expect more than 450 watts output without
exceeding the published plate current maximum for the Centaur.
If you exceed the 500 milliamps current, you are asking for trouble.
