I bought an Omni VI (upraded to 2) from John Rippey. I chose the Omni VI because of the receiver perfomance specs and the QSK. This was my first Ten-Tec rig. I am completely satisfied with the performance of the radio. I have looked inside the rig and found that it is well constructed, and I would not dread having to work on it if that ever became necessary. It has a large easy to read digital readout.

There are several things that the Omni VI does not have. It does not have a bunch of little tiny buttons with obscure acronym labels. It does not have a second receiver of any kind, not even one that has to be on the same band as the primary receiver, or is second rate in performance to the main receiver. It doesn't even have general coverage receive! It does not have a key click problem. It does not have a built in memory keyer, though it does have a keyer. It does not have a bunch of little tiny knobs for adusting things that seldom need adjusting. It does not have a lot of flashy or colorful displays. It does not have the appearance of a VCR on steroids. It does not have any commonly used important functions deeply imbedded in a menu system. It does not operate on 6 or 2 meters or any higher bands. It does not have a built-in antenna tuner. It does not have selectable sideband for CW operation.

Even lacking all of those features, I really like the Omni VI, and I'm not thinking about buying another transceiver any time soon. Since buying the OmniVI, I liked it so much I have purchased several other pieces of Ten-Tec equipment, and am happy with them too. I got a Paragon, so now I have general coverage receive capability and will have dual receive capability. It also has AM receive which the Omni does not.

There are a lot of choices out there for HF (and more) transceivers. I could have had any of the top of the line rigs and I chose the Omni VI. I am happy with that choice.

Enjoy,
