People have forgotten that the FT-1000 had a steep learning curve when it
first came out. The necessity to dig through some of
the menus to set up the rig for tuning rates and such meant a lot of contesters
at multi-multi stations, when confronted with a
FT-1000 for the first time, were calling "CQ" and pawing through the
instruction manual at the same time.
Contesters are pretty trainable, and will put in the effort if they think it
will pay off with an improved contest score!
