Hi Henrik,

I still have the Titan 425, but right now it's blowing 20 amp fuses in the
power supply, which probably means the tubes are shot. Just have not had
time to trouble shoot it yet. But this is the first time anything has ever
gone seriously wrong with it and it literally has thousands of hours of
operating time. So really excellent service over the years. The vacuum relay
and the fan are noisy, but then I mostly do CW so am always wearing
headphones so that noise never bothered me. Doing high speed CW, I severely
abused the vacuum relay and had to replace several of them until I finally
found some mil-spec relays...those didn't fail. But back then I was doing 80
to 100 wpm CW using full QSK, so was not surprised about the relays!

Am presently using a Titan 3, but have had to go through a lot of 'growing
pains' to get these amplifiers to work. I think this one I now have is
pretty solid but it took four trips to Ten Tec to get it working correct.

The Titan 425 was completely different story. Take it out of the box, put it
on the desk and it works! I do think the annual cleaning probably helped a
lot, especially keeping the fan clean so it could maintain a good air flow
up through the tubes.

I cringe when I see guys talking about removing an amp's fan to put in a
'quieter' one. A quiet fan normally means you will not get adequate air flow
over the tubes. So you substitute a cheap fan and sooner or later your going
to be buying expensive new tubes!!

My fan had an annoying noise since I bougth it 14 years ago. I replaced
it with a bigger fan mounted on the other side of the wall.

Tommy, out of curiosity - you said the Titan gave you excellent service
for 12 years. Did it then fail or did you just part with it ?

Hi Bill,

I'm not sure there is anything written about it, but cleaning it sure
does help. On my Titan 425, which gave me 12 years of excellent service,
I made it a habit in the early fall each year to take off the covers and
vacuum out the insides. I also used a small, stiff glue brush and
cleaned off all of the vanes inside of the fan, then put a drop of
sewing machine oil on the bearing felt washer. Don't actually know if
that helped keep things running, but it sure provided me with great
service.

are there some do's and don'ts on maintaining the fan in the Titan ??
It's seems to be making lot of noise , or should i say it's not as
smooth
as it used to be , and the case conducts the vibrations to my cabinet,
which acts to amplify the noise !! ( love that HercII )
