Used gear is not hard to find since the advent of the internet which you seem to have figured out. Info on older gear is easy to research. New gear will cost more, take longer to figure out and be more fun. So just jump in with all your enthusiasm and dont be afraid to make a mistake. Let your accumulated wisdom be your guide.
