You might have no ground at all, effectively.
That is not "a wire," it's 2" copper strap. Through the wall. 8 feet.

Hearing HUM on audio devices, turning on appliances, and the like, as you
have described, certainly makes me wonder.
You mean that doesn't happen to everyone with balanced antennas? (Only partially kidding.)
