Stan,

A shot in the dark. I am running Vista Ultimate. I sent my Orion in for a
display repair before the update came out. I had not down loaded the 2.060b
software until just now. After I installed it, Windows Vista asked me if I
wanted to reinstall it using Vista parameters. I said no at this point. If
I read the screen correctly, if it did not work properly, Vista suggested
re-installing the software and then using the Vista parameters.

Another option is using a separate computer if you can borrow a laptop and
try that. Good luck.

John

Grant,

At least I know this happens to others, but nothing seems to be fixing it.
I did a master reset and rebooted my computer. No dice. I replaced the
serial cable. No dice. I turned on xon/xoff and then hardware handshaking on
the port. No dice. And yet if I fire up N4PY or the logging program, they
talk to the Orion through com1 just fine. Maybe, on a long shot, I'll try
downloading the update software again, but I doubt if that is going to make
any difference.

I just had a similar thing happen. I updated my Orion II and it worked
fine. When I tried to update the Orion I v2, I consistently got a
communications failure message. The update program screen did show "0 of
... Lines" at the bottom, and looked sort of like it should be working, but
it wasn't updating anything. (The "orion detected" message was missing from
the top of the Update window).

I did a Master Reset and then went back into update mode, and it worked
fine.

The Update utlilty does automatically configure the COM port to the correct
parameters, so that probably isn't your issue. I would also suspect that
there would be errors of other kinds if it was really a problem with flash
memory in the radio -- but one never knows .. :)
