I just ordered a new laptop today and faced the daunting question of "XP or
VISTA", so I checked with my broadcast colleagues on the Radio-Tech
reflector and not a single person recommended VISTA. One guy called it a
"trainwreck" and another said it was the worst OS release since Windows
"Mistake Edition" (ME)! Since the laptop comes with VISTA and since someday
Microsoft will stop supporting XP, I checked into "downgrading", at least
for now, until VISTA gets fixed and I found this information about
"Downgrade Rights" on the MS website:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/f/4/5f4c83d3-833e-4f11-8cbd-699b0c164182/royaltyoemreferencesheet.pdf
So I ordered the laptop with no OS installed, but with the VISTA DVD shipped
with it, and I will run on XP Pro until moving to VISTA makes sense. I have
dozens of ham radio programs that, at this point, don't support VISTA.
