David, The 1N4007 die is much larger and more rugged than the ordinary silicon diode die of the 1N4148. It has been shown to work in other RF switching circuits, and they are very low cost, since they are a ubiquitous power diode. You also could probably order the correct PIN diodes from Mouser, who have no minimum order.
