If I see an item of interest on Ebay, I search them on QTH and QRZ to see if
anything shows up. You can't always go by feedback of the seller because
Ebay tends to cleanse the feedback. Using our good pal radio-mart as an
example, he shows a 99.5% FB, but if you dig a little deeper, it show a
different picture. A helpful site is
http://toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=radio-mart. You can search any
username by placing name after = in the url.
You can get screwed on any transaction, but I tend to lose less sleep over
dealings on QTH and QRZ.
Paypal is just another arm of the Ebay money machine. Selling on Ebay
requires you to accept Paypal as one of your payment options. I have an
account for those that just will not take other payment, but try to avoid it
if I can. I also never leave a balance in my Paypal account, as Paypal can
and will freeze the account at their whim, especially if they think you are
making any kind of transaction that deals with guns, including reloading
supplies.
