As far as I can tell, based on down loaded VI and VI+ manuals, there is no VI without a DSP. That the mods making the VI+ were all in firmware in a plugged in EPROM or two on the same hardware board. But I have no reason to be absolutely certain that what the VI+ manual shows is the absolute truth.

I see separate cables between the audio and logic boards for signal into the DSP and signal out of the DSP. Looks to me as if one cable could be connected between the two connectors on the audio board skipping the DSP completely. There might be a complete lack of low pass filtering though that would bring out much noise, which my speaker filter would handle, or perhaps there needs to be a low pass filter made of a couple stages of op amps low pass filtering between those cables. Or else an external DSP like the Timewave DSP599+ family would be appropriate. Though mine needs my passive speaker filter to kill off digital artifacts in the stop band.

Perhaps making a simple low pass filter replacement for the DSP is one way to save the Omni VI/VI+ with a failing DSP section of the logic board. I'm rashly presuming the signal levels in and out of the DSP are the same and that there's plenty audio gain without the DSP.

the idea of bringing out the audio ahead of the dsp, is what Iam going
to do. I asked if anyone had a VI without the dsp upgrade and how the
quality of the audio was, never got a reply on that one. I can live with
the audio from the vI+ ,I guess ,just think it could be much better.
take care
