The processor chips are available from multiple sources. I did just find that the CODEC that interfaces the DSP to the analog audio is not available. A TLC32041 is its number. I have gone to the TI web page and posted a request for a replacement that might fit the board or might be adapted. Changing the firmware isn't a viable option except at Tentec. If there's not a package and pin compatibile chip, perhaps there's a surface mount that could be easily adapted with a small circuit board. Or there's a ham fix, jumper the DSP in and out and use an external DSP like the Timewave products. OR just tap on the input to the DSP and go to that Timewave product that has its own audio power amp. There might need to be a bit of impedance adjustment because its intended to replace a speaker, not work at lower level higher impedance. Though that might have been an option, I'll have to go dig out my documentation.

At the moment it would appear the CODEC is where the CW and too low frequency audio low pass filtering is done, not in the DSP at least the original CODEC has those capabilities of a programmable low pass filter. So some replacements might not have that capability calibrated to the same frequencies and that feature might have to be defeated with other CODEC products. As a family of devices CODECs abound because they are needed for nearly all DSP designs, whether part of the DSP or separate.

My apologies Neal for beating the dead horse so to speak.... Please don't hate
yourself for asking.

The reason I was asking was because a local ham offered me a loaded O IV+ at
bargain price because of reason #4 (he needed money). I initially was
interested in buying and heard the rumblings months back about rigs coming back
from TT unrepaired because they had logic bd issues.

I passed on the deal for reason #2 (news of maint shortcomings)

Been thinking about it and wondering if I did the right thing. Still think most
semi's on my Omni V are still obtainable. I could get a processor from N4PY if
I wanted to upgrade and have a spare.

Anyway I'll leave the dead horse to his dirt nap........

73 and thanks for the input,
