I have a TenTec station Omni VII, Centurion, RX-320D, Model 715, and
some of their receiver kits. I also have a pair of Palstar tuners, only
one of which is on line with the transceiver right now.

I like using the RX-320D. I wonder whether anyone thinks I could use
the noise bridge to tune an antenna on my spare tuner -- allowing me to
tune the receive antenna without having a transmit signal.

Antenna "tuners" (matchboxes) do not really tune (resonate) an antenna -- they just match its impedance to the Tx or Rx. This is generally not very important at the sub-milliwatt power levels encountered in receive-only systems. I have never found that a matchbox improved reception significantly, although I hesitate to say that there is no antenna it could ever help.

Actually tuning (resonating) the antenna, on the other hand, can be a great help -- but that is not what matchboxes (with or without noise bridges) do. (And it can get old fast if you change frequencies much.)

Best regards,

Charles
