I have a cooling fan on my Orion's heat sink, but only because it was
available and I'd rather have extra margin on cooling. On my Omni VI+,
which has a very similar heat sink and amplifier module, I NEVER ran
additional cooling even though I ran RTTY contests with it. In fact, the
VI+ case used to get very warm, but not from the amp module, rather because
my Centurion amp exhaust blew directly on the left side of the rig! I never
had a problem related to the amp with the Omni in the years I owned and used
it. This always impressed me!

Subject: [TenTec] cooling fan
I have a fan on the back of both my Omni VI+ and my Corsair II.Probably not
needed about %99 of the time, but if I contest with them I like to keep them
cool.
Those of you that run Orions, do you use a fan on the heat sink? Do you feel
that one is necessary? It does make the front to back length greater and in
my case I do not have a lot of extra room in back of the rig.
Thanks for any replies.
