Noise Reduction "NR" : I mostly agree with Carl. My gear is Omni VI Opt-3
and opt-1 on a second unit. SSB is a significantly "modified" sound making
it more difficult to understand due to the lack of sibilance. However,
personally I like the "modified" sound when copying CW. I would describe it
as "enhanced". On CW, I use speeds up to 35 wpm or so with the "NR" always
"on". Regards, Bob K4BG

Still to this day I have never seen an NR that truely helps with copy. They might make things quieter but copy is always best under difficult conditions with NR off. Why are people rumbling aboutan Orion III? Let's get the O-II finalized first. I am still waiting for an upgrade that will improve the NR part of the rig. One that, when youactivate it, will truly reduce the noise WITHOUT altering the audio qualityof the voice you're receiving. On some signals it seems to work okay but mostly it distorts the audio andacts erratically and I am running ver. 2.044A. Different settings of the AGC threshold and manual AGC level do not seem to make much difference. 73, Tony VE3DWI ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barry N1EU"<barry.n1eu@gmail.com> To: "Discussion of Ten-Tec Equipment"<tentec@contesting.com> Sent: Thursday, May 12, 2011 12:29 PM Subject: Re: [TenTec] O3 wish listWell said and totally agree Paul. Limited engineering resources can be put to much better use. If the rig mfr provides I.F. output, they've done their job._______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/tentec_______________________________________________ TenTec mailing list TenTec@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/tentec |
