And there is a MIC ground being pin #7 and a PTT ground being pin #5. They
are different ground points internally. One is analog ground and one is
digital ground.

although the two mikes having the problem probably means two different
mike cables, do check that the mic connector pin that is supposed to be
shield ground DOES go to the chassis of the radio.
