Here's how I do it: turn RF Gain to max and tune in an s9+ signal. Set AF
Gain to the maximum loudness that is comfortable. Leave the AF Gain fixed
at that level. Tune away from the strong station to an empty part of the
band and set RF Gain so that you can just hear the background band noise.
You're done - just make slight adjustments to the RF Gain when necessary,
but otherwise keep the AF/RF Gain knobs in those positions and you should
notice quieter rx.
