Update

Due to having a second rig (a Triton IV), as well as some “extra” boards I have
picked up over the years,
I was able to swap out all of the critical boards in the rig, including the PA
module,
with no appreciable change in the distorted output (everything but the NB, CW
filter, and the calibrator).
Likewise, I was able to put the known-good Triton on the dummy load and could
hear “good audio” on the
second receiver – so it’s not an overload issue with the monitoring rig.

My focus will now be on the switches, sockets, off-board discretes and cable
harnesses in the 540.
e.g. there are some caps in line and across the mic input before the SSB
Generator board.

Does the 540 run in class A-B in both CW and SSB?
