Ha, I was certain that comment would draw criticism.
You are probably right.
As I said, I was repeating Rob's comments when he set up for the contest.
He had a nightmare of a time just trying to get everything to work, and once
it did, one week before the contest, he did not turn the computer or radio
off again.  He let them run for a week just to be sure.

When he set up with the flex, it was done in short order.

We'd have to bring Rob in to explain just what the trouble was.
Perhaps it was learning curve in how to set up a computer to run that
environment.

But as a contester, the words "software glitches" scare me half to death! 
Who needs them?

Sorry Rick, but I must take issue based on my own experience.  The OpenHPSDR
software (a separate branch of PowerSDR, running on the ANAN
radios) is more mature with more features at this point in time than the
Flex 6K's SmartSDR.  It also exposes much more control over receive/transmit
parameters than SmartSDR.  I've contested with the ANAN for a couple of
years, along with a few of my other radios, esp. my Orion II/RX366.  My main
issue with contesting on an SDR is all the software pieces involved and the
vulnerability to glitches.

I agree with Elecraft showing the way in many respects.  I just wish they,
or someone else, would come out with the equivalent of the K3s in a larger
form factor.
