Thanks Gary. I eye-balled the caps today. I didn't see anything bad but I was 
mainly looking for swelling.
If it's not a tube, I'll take another look at the caps.

I fellow up in northern Minnesota GAVE me one of those with exactly the same 
problem.

I found that one of the filter caps was pinched too hard during assembly and 
must have distorted the capacitor.

I replaced them all anyway but I sure got a good deal when I was done with it.

The tubes could do it too, even key up because the plate voltage is still 
applied to them in standby.
