I don't know what planet you live on Paul, but here on Earth, 160m still
works fine during low sunspots.
All you need is a good antenna, which most people do not have on that band -
and a relatively quite QTH, which most people don't have these days either.

BTW, a full size 160m dipole at 40 ft. is not a good 160m antenna. It needs
to be at least 3x that height to be good.
An Inverted-L with good ground radials will yield much better results.

You can build a good small receiving antenna and at least listen to
something on 160m during low sunspots. No antenna will help on 12m during
low sunspots.

Our Field Day in EU includes 160m, but not 12m of course.
QRP is a popular class.
The Argonaut 6 is an outstanding radio for FD contests.
Wouldn't want to see it without 160m.

Who says 160 will be any better. It was not last time.

The Argonaut6 "Phoenix" WILL have 12m in it.

BTW, I coined the "phoenix" bit, Ten-Tec has not chosen to call it that.

Over the next 6 to 8 years, most people will probably be very happy
that they have 160m instead of 12m.
10 and 12m are going on a Sabbatical soon!

Hi,

I was rather vocal of the Argonaut VI. Part of my criticism concerned
adding
160 meters and skipping 12 meters. I know the why for both.
Perhaps I could have handled the concept better if it had only 3 or 5
bands.
I don't know, but it just seemed odd that 160 meters would be so
important in a 10 watt radio.

Any body think it might be kind of cool if the Argonaut 7at became a
simpler, but direct competition for the KX3? Hmmmm, how about if the
box was a smaller version of the box for the 515?

I am mostly a casual operator here, so my Corsair II is more than
adequate for my needs. I am more interested in what happens to the
Argonaut line. I have had excellent performance with my Argonaut VI
and my 6 meter transverter and Mirage brick amplifier. I just
ordered
6 and 2 meter transverters from Down East Microwave to replace my
Elecraft units. So, I may spring for a new Argonaut when Ten Tec
gets them back into production.
