Some progress...It receives now!!!! You ask what did I do....

1. Resoldered the CPLD and DSP chips.
2 Carefully cleaned the flux off of them and closely inspected them with
eye loop, found little hair like things across several leads and also on
the mutipin connectors.
3. At first this made no difference using real old ver 1 software that I
had installed yesterday
4. Loaded up the latest Ver3 software and could see that it loaded
correctly and I had DSP software loaded correctly ( big step forward)
but still no audio or reception.
5. Followed very closely to the letter the re boot procedure and it
worked!! Had audio and could hear stuff on 20M ssb but still a few
issues.
6 Reloaded the software again and careful to follow the reboot and it
worked.
7 Went to button up the front panel to the case and it quit working????
Darn
8 . Tried restart/reboot and now the front panel is attached to the case
and radio working on Rx anyway...

So I will let it cook for awhile and see what give. I am not a fan of
all the connectors in this radio and not sure they area all seating
correctly...Connectors like this are bad and easily lead to
funkyfailures.

Will let you guys know of anything else I am going to get a new battery
just in case the one I have is weak although it checks good..

Steve NU0P Fingers crossed

FWIW, the Orion seems more prone to strange internal connectivity
failures of one sort or another than the Orion II.
