Fellow DX chasers,
Have you read the new rules to come into effect on 31 March 1998?
In seeking to clarify, and make more readable the island rules, the words
"of open water" have been left out from the earlier point 2(a)rules and any
one (1) of three (3) conditions applied.
MY READING of this change is as follows:
(condition 1)
A new entity exists if it is separated from its Parent by 350 kilometres or
more with the 350 kilometres being taken from the island containing the
capital city.
Only ONE such new entity of this type allowed.
BESIDES the proposed H40 operation for Santa Cruz Is, a quick look at an
atlas throws up the following candidates for similar treatment.
(1) DU The island of Mindanao (or islands west or south of it) separated
from Luzon island containing the capital Manilla (not counting the disputed
Spratley Group)
(2) YB The island of Timor , Irian Jaya or others, from Java Island
containing the capital Jakarta
(3) C6 Long Island, Gt Inagua Island or Ackland Island from Grand Bahama
island, assuming that Freeport is the capital.
(4) P29 Bougainville island from Papua containing the capital Port Moresby
(5) YJ8 Erromango or Tanna island separated from Espiritu Santo island
containing the capital.
(6) A35 Toku or Fonualei island from Tongatapu island containing the capital
Possibles
I feel sure that there may be other possibles in the KC6 and V6 areas as well.
Others may find more, but remember the Parent Country must be an Island
State inits own right. (This counts out Cheterville (FK8), Marquesas,
Austral (FO8) and Henderson and Ducie (VR6))
I would be interested to hear what others think about the suggestions, but
please before you flame away, CAREFULLY READ THE NEW RULES ON THE ARRL WEB
SITE including the definitions section.
Cheers and (maybe) warm up those linears!!!!
