Of course Earl is right, Omni 6's (and I heard an Omni C on 40 yesterday
doing the same) have a reputation also. I'm not sure if all Omni's have the
problem or just some, but some certainly are nasty. If I'm not mistaken W9AC
(Paul) mentioned he had a cure for the Omni about a month ago on this
reflector.
Receivers can also have problems. DSP filtered radios that use wide roofing
filters are often not particularly good, and manuals don't mention that
noise blankers almost always totally hose-up receiver dynamics so the fellow
may be listening with a NB on, or have a receiver with poor close-spaced
blocking or DR characteristics.
