These "current at the top" verticals started in the 1960's.

Yep... several of us in London in 1962/3 fed quaterwave wires from our bedrooms with the base of 30 ft poles at the end of the gardens solidly earthed.... Masses of earth rods round the edge of the garden to tap into the wet old London clay ....and they worked a dream.


Tuner consisted of a large coil and cap with a link winding to the Tx.....

Still remember the thrill of working Stew, W1BB for the first time on 160
