At the local radio station we wanted to check the condition of the ground
system a few years back. The procedure was simple--we just took our
trusty field strength meter with a loop antenna on it, and while the
station was transmitting, we walked along the ground holding the loop
just an inch or so above the earth. At each radial the strength of the
station signal peaked, and we were able to walk to the end of the radial
wire, dig down, and ohm-meter it to the adjacent radial wire to assure
that it was connected to the buss at the antenna.
So-- put 50 watts or so into your antenna, build a little diode detector
and loop with meter, and you should be able to find your wires. Please do
it in the daytime, this summer, so you don't QRM anybody!!
