Milt,

I am aware of two types of beacons: one with 2 W of output 
power and the other one with 8 watts (on some becons the 
power cen be set between the two levels). The antenna is 
an approximately 3 meter long whip. That may not sound all 
that effective, but remember that these beacons float in 
salt water, which virtually eliminates ground losses and 
ensures low take-off angles.
