Rob, Check out XW4ZW on QRZ.com .
Ken XW4ZW and I did make a contact on 160 from Oregon but it was very
difficult due to the noise in XW. 80 meters was not near as noisy there.
As near as I can tell from experience putting up a receiving antenna would be
very important if not mandatory in XW.
I am not a member of the antenna forum and as such did not post there..

A fellow in Laos wants to get on 160 m. I imagine those of you who chase DX
would be interested in encouraging him and giving him advice.
He says he wants to put up an antenna that's good for DX. I told him to put up
an inverted L. Others might have better ideas. He posted in the antenna forum
on QRZ.com:

You have to log in to see it.
