Hi, Press.

The push to standardize on 30/45 amp Anderson PP connectors started in the
Pacific Northwest. What they do is wire all of their radios and power
supplies to use the same red/black PP connectors. This goes for all the
various ARES, RACES and other groups.

Then, in an emergency or field operation, all the radios and power supplies
are instantly interchangable. They have mobiles, portables, base stations,
extension cords, cigarette lighter cords, alligator-clamped battery cables,
the whole gamut and all using these standard 30/45 amp red and black
Anderson Power Pole connectors.

I finally located a diagram from Wes Allen (wesa@dnc.net) in Portland, OR,
that describes the orientation I was asking about. Now, let's see if I can
describe it....

Each of the connectors has a fairly obvious top side--it appears to be the
widest, flattest and smoothest of the four sides. With the top side up,
connectors pointed away from you as though you were holding onto the wires
and preparing to plug the connector into something, the Red connector is on
the Right.

The connectors are available from a lot of different sources, including
yourself, of course. I bought mine from Wes simply because he is doing his
best to proliferate this standard among the emergency groups and I wanted
to support that effort. I am not sure what you sell the connectors for,
but I bought 50 pair from Wes for $40 + $3.

73, Dick
