Mike,
Over the years it seems that insulated copper lasts the longest. I
have use steel electric fence wire and aluminum wire but they don't
seem to like the acids, etc, in the soil and can deteriorate rather
quickly (several years). All the insulated copper radials that I have
installed seem to be in fine shape. BTW, my radials are installed on
top of the lawn and "stapled" down with home made staples made of
steel wire. The grass grows over the wire quickly and "buries" it for
you. I got several thousand feet of "appliance wire" in rolls from
W3GM (SK) some years ago and am still using it.
