Here in the Pacific Northwest, where the skies are cloudy all day, I use
different
method to measure tree height (after I shoot a string over the top of the
tree).
I measure the length of the string!!!!!!

If the string is not vertical and I want more accuracy, I measure the
distance from
the string at the bottom to the bottom of tree and do the math.
