Bill,

For what it is worth, I have a GEM quad with fibreglass spreaders.  I
asked the manufacturer this same question.  His response:

Don't.

He pointed out that some paints are mildly conductive and might screw
up the electrical characteristics.  I don't know.

Anyhow, I didn't.  Seven years and counting.

The fact that the manufacturer is in VE4 and has considerably less UV
exposure than here did enter my mind.
