Tom, I use those thin rods sold at Dayton and some flea markets
to repair thin aluminum. They are sometimes sold under the names
of "MF" and "KL" rods....somehow I think those names are made
up by the guys who sell them....anyway, those rods and a common
propane torch work for me. Yes, it will take patience and practice
to make a successful joint. As always, "follow label directions".
Short of using the rods, could you saw off the "bad" part of the
Beta rod and flatten it the end and then make a cut somewhere else
in the rod and splice it with another tube to end up with the correct
length?
