If I may propose another mast installation method that
may be applicable to certain applications is to insert
the mast into the top tower section and then raise that
entire assembly up into place. We recently erected a 50
ft Rohn 25 tower and did just that. The mast was only
12 ft long(and not heavy walled) and didn't appreciably
add to the weight of the assembly. The tower was
assembled using a gin pole. The mast was then extened
out the top of the tower and held in place with a piece
of uni-strut and u-bolts and then the rotator
installed. Very slick.
Now for heavier tower sections (45 or 55) and/or
heavier/longer masts, I agree that the crane method is
the best and safest. I attached my KT34XA onto my heavy
walled mast on the ground and then had a crane hoist
that up and into my Trylon 72 footer. Very easy, very
safe. Keep it simple, keep it safe. Don't compromise.
