Sounds like the time my Dad and I spent hours working on an 80 meter 
vertical to no avail...  turned out the center conductor on the inside 
of the antenna analyzer was broken!  Boy was I pissed... ended up 
rushing to get everything ready for the start of a contest and I coulda 
been napping!

Check your test equipment against a known standard... before you get too 
far afield!
