For what it is worth I offer the following: The first time I put up my AB-577 I only put up 7 of the 8 sections - I was putting up an A3S tribander by myself in a fair amount of wind and I chickened out after 7. The next time I put it up, again by myself but without the wind, and I was committed to going all the way up. After putting in the 8th section and starting to crank it up it began to get really 'heavy'. When I finally decided something was wrong and looked up the tower sections were curved in a 'C' towards one of the guy wires. I had forgot to let out more cable on the top guy and it was still set for 7 sections!! After seeing how much bend, and how much force (the offending guy wire was very tight - I had made it almost all the way up) those clamps can take I do not worry about the clamps coming loose while I am raising the antenna - even in a fair amount of wind. With that said I certainly would not advocate not guying the tower, but the clamps are quite strong.
