For a "expedient mast", why not some lengths of iron pipe? Sure, it's
heavy, but you don't have any particular need for portability and
collapsibility, do you? 50 feet of 2" or 3" (or stepped sizes) might work
just fine. It's also cheap, and, if you bought it as scrap, you might be
able to sell it for almost what you paid for it. It even comes threaded,
and there are couplings, etc.
I might suggest thin wall EMT in a large diameter, which is also quite
cheap, but I think it might be too flexible.
