But if your munisipality requires *you* to comply with the NEC, and if 
your insurance co. won't pay out if your house burns down because they 
allege that *you* did not follow the NEC, it may not do you much good to 
point out that the power co., cable TV installer, etc. didn't follow the 
NEC.

IAC, the NEC is constantly being updated (new editions every three 
years), so 40 years ago the power co. wasn't bound by today's NEC; 
that's assuming that the power companies are bound by the NEC at all.

BTW, ISTR that compression clamps are permitted by the NEC, but they 
have to be checked for tightness every year.
