  Like Jake, I have also used the Scotch Brite pads for cleaning; in fact, I 
  am doing one right now....
  Also, when I rebuilt my TA33 last year I used the same method and I sprayed 
  all of the parts with a clear acrylic spray. The antenna now looks as good 
  as the day I put it up!
