I'm not saying this will help much, and there's a pretty good chance
you know this already, but the "Bell System Technical Journal"
contained huge amounts of stuff about almost anything AT&T did. I
used to frequent the musty shelves of BSTJ back-issues in the
engineering library when I was in college. Good stuff.
I am not a NJ native and don't know anything about that particular area.
I'm sure proximity to NYC, to AT&T's other facilities in NJ, and to
the ocean, probably had a lot to do with it. Soil conductivity may
have been a factor, as well as the terrain towards Europe and South
America, over which the signal would have been launched.
As for rhombic antennas, there is information to be found on the web
and in old antenna books if you go looking for it, but I'm guessing
you are looking for details about the particular rhombic system AT&T
used at that site.
That must have been one impressive system.
