I agree to a point.  Most ham radio uses for Rohn 45G and 55G do not come
close to the vertical strength rating of these towers.  I used plain axle
grease on the legs of my 150 foot 45, more to help with assembly than taking
apart.  I would not use any kind of lube on the bolts as they are
galvanized.

In my opinion, I would never use any lube on tower sections where they join.
Read the ROHN on-line manual or even call the company and ask their opinion.
It reduces the strength of the joint, putting most of the weight on the
bolts. I'd much rather use a tower jack to get them apart, rather than lube
the sections.  The 25G and 45G both use the friction of the galvanized joint
to add strength.  I do use never seize on the bolts.  I use a taper pin
punch to enlarge the holes "when necessary" if the galvanizing prevents the
bolts from going in easily. They should be a snug fit and according to the
manual, never screwed in using the threads to force the bolt in, nor should
the bolt holes be reamed.
