I was with you until you said "side lobe structure." I don't claim to
know much a bout the design of Yagis, but I'm under the impression that
pattern is largely determined by the tuning and spacing of parasitic
elements. Am I wrong?
but with droopy ends (or hats or other stuff) it gives you more
variables to try and adjust the relative element currents (mag and
phase) and that does affect side/back lobes. forward gain is mostly
determined by overall length. Number and spacing of elements affects
side/back lobe structure. (to a first order)
